If you don’t know much about roofing, installing a roof can seem like an impossible task. Sure, it isn’t an easy task. However, it is not overly complicated once you understand the basics. In fact, most people are capable of installing their own roofs. It is just much easier to hire a commercial roofer. Plus, you also have to factor in the safety risks as well for the average person on a roof.
Yet, it can be incredibly rewarding to install your own shingles. In this video, you will learn the steps to install shingles.
Before installing the shingles or even the felt underneath, you will want to install the drip edging. The drip edging should go along the edge of the roof and hang over by about a half an inch. The drip edging is responsible for directing the water away from your house.
The next step is to nail down felt paper. Felt paper just adds another layer of protection underneath the shingles. It absorbs moisture and provides a surface for the shingles to move independently. This leads to an increase in durability. To see the shingle installation, please watch the rest of the video.
